UN NO. 2880
CAS NO. 7778-54-3
2. Why many shipping companies doesn't allow such product to be delivered?
According to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Rules, calcium hypochlorite is a strong oxidant, which can ignite in contact with organic substances or ammonium compounds, decompose easily at high temperature, cause fire or explosion, and other dangers such as toxic chlorine released by reactions with acids and corrosion stimulation.
In order to avoid the harm caused by false declaration, IMDG code clearly stipulates that goods should be declared with the correct shipping name in order to eliminate the problem of false declaration. Calcium hypochlorite is the correct transport name, and only under the name with the correct UN number.
However, in practice, it is often mistakenly declared as calcium chloride or similar name goods, such as bleaching powder, CCH, BK powder, disinfectant, chlorine lime and so on.
